Position Title: Asparagopsis Grow-Out Lead

Location:  Nha Trang, Vietnam

The Company: Greener Grazing® is an ambitious, one-of-a-kind project that is making scalable ocean-based Asparagopsis seaweed farming a reality. Our work has the potential to drastically reduce methane emissions from livestock digestion by adding seaweed into ruminant diets. We have currently mastered the complete knowledge pathway needed to reliably produce spores, seed them onto substrates, and nurse the seedlings before transferring them for grow-out. We are now seeking to employ the knowledge, technology, and systems to scale Asparagopsis farming worldwide, where Asparagopsis is present.

The Opportunity: Greener Grazing represents a unique opportunity to join an early-stage business with tremendous potential, operating on a global scale with world-changing social and environmental impact. To continue our efforts to become a global force in Asparagopsis aquaculture, we are looking for an experienced, motivated, and creative person with demonstrated experience in marine farming systems (seaweed or shellfish) to expand our current farming locations in and outside Vietnam. You will manage and oversee our current Asparagopsis grow-out operations (R&D and Production) in Vietnam and identify and evaluate new geographies to implement new farming sites within and outside Vietnam. It is expected that you are flexible to travel regularly within Vietnam and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of current and new ocean farming field trial activities.

  • Develop and evaluate farming systems, track bio-economic performance of field trial sites.

  • Identify and evaluate new geographies and sites for ocean based Asparagopsis spp. farming, considering environmental, oceanographic, legal and other factors.

  • Establish and oversee test plots and production trials in partnership with third party collaborators to determine the suitability of prospective sites and establish siting criteria for successful farming.

  • Design, run and evaluate experimental trials in cooperation with the scientific team.

  • Lead the planning for developing ocean farming in the identified suitable geographies, including budgeting and commercial projections.

  • Assist in delivering sustainable farming systems that use best farming practices to maximize production and reduce costs (including automation).

  • Develop and implement quality assurance standards to ensure timely execution and data quality.

  • Adopt a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, communicating and managing risks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Aquaculture or Biology is preferred;

  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience on managing the day-to-day operations of seaweed or shellfish offshore aquaculture;

  • Experience in managing maritime operations;

  • Experience in legal, administration and licensing in aquaculture;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities in English;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, in a multicultural environment;

  • Ability to work autonomously.

Duration and Remuneration

  • The initial contract is for a period of 12 months, with longer-term extension and growth opportunities in Vietnam and other locations internationally.
